Who Are We?

Letter From the Editor • March 15, 2026

Who are we? First of all, we reckon this is in itself a difficult question to answer. Literally, we do not exist. This project is an experiment in politics - is it possible to collectively reinvent politics, beginning in this manner? I see no reason not to at least test it out.

To be clear, the precedent for this project is the new war. We witness it online, as if we are not implicated in the moment. How do we mourn the loss of life? What do we do with ourselves? These moral feelings surface at the same time that many analysts propose the United States is caught in an escalatory logic it does not have the power to escape. People have been 'reading the tea leaves,' and perceive the United States severely damaging itself.

This project is not about predicting or controlling the future. Rather, I intend to affirm the possibility of a new form of society, which is not organized around accumulation of wealth. We recognize the logic of accumulation - which simply concerns 'having more' - as what drives the lawless, barbaric acts of our rulers. At the same time, we know and can affirm that it is possible for political/economic processes to be administered in a sober way, based on the principle: from each according to their ability, to each according to their need.

But again, who are we? The only correct answer at this moment in time is that we are not!
